Maths Curriculum Overview

Mathematics is an essential tool in our daily lives, providing a framework for understanding the world. It helps us analyse and communicate information, as well as address practical tasks and real-world problems.

Through mathematics, children learn to navigate their surroundings by enhancing their skills in calculation, reasoning, and problem-solving. As both a core and creative subject, mathematics has numerous connections to other disciplines, yet it is most effectively taught as a standalone subject, using real-world contexts to practice these skills. At Naima, we aim for our students to grasp the purpose of their learning and to apply their knowledge in everyday situations.

Our goal is to ensure that every child develops:

  • A positive attitude toward mathematics and a genuine enjoyment of the subject.
  • Competence and confidence in mathematical knowledge, concepts, and skills.
  • The ability to solve problems and think logically.
  • Initiative and the capability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Skills to apply mathematics across the curriculum and in real-life scenarios.

Our Approach to Maths at Naima JPS

At Naima JPS, we strive to set challenging yet realistic targets while maintaining high expectations for all students. This ensures they make good progress and reach their full potential in mathematics.

We offer diverse teaching methods to engage and motivate students, encouraging their active participation in lessons. By using a variety of approaches, we aim to cater to different learning styles and keep students engaged.

Beyond the standard curriculum, we explore enrichment opportunities to enhance students' enjoyment of mathematics. This includes highlighting its creative and aesthetic aspects, allowing students to see the subject from a broader perspective.

We promote logical thinking and the practical application of mathematics through creative problem-solving. By incorporating various mathematical concepts, students develop a deeper understanding and confidence in their abilities.

Additionally, we emphasise the relevance and utility of mathematics in the world and society. By doing so, we help enrich students' cultural capital and demonstrate the subject’s importance in everyday life.

Finally, we aim to foster lasting curiosity and enthusiasm for mathematics and numbers, inspiring a lifelong appreciation for the subject.
