Science Curriculum Overview
Our science curriculum is designed with high expectations, ensuring that children gain the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive throughout their journey at Naima JPS and beyond.
Science education begins in the Early Years under the 'Understanding the World' area of learning, enabling a deeper understanding and appreciation of various scientific principles through in-depth exploration of specific topics as children progress into upper Key Stage 2.
Working scientifically is at the core of our teaching. The essential scientific skills of questioning, observing, investigating, concluding, and evaluating are integrated into lessons, building progressively throughout the school. This ensures that all children are able to understand the nature and methods of science. Practical work is important in our curriculum, with children learning to use scientific equipment and where possible, engage in hands-on experiments across both Key Stages. We encourage enquiry-based learning, where children are empowered to ask their own questions and seek out answers. Science is interwoven with other subjects wherever possible, including through enrichment activities, providing children with essential insight into how science influences our everyday lives.
